Artist with Disabilities Show Off their Creations at the Artist Market

CeramicsThe area's most celebrated artists with disabilities will feature an eclectic mix of original, unforgettable artistry at Abilities Expo. These amazing works will be available for appreciation and purchase.

Artist Market sponsor L.A. Goal is a nonprofit agency that provides Inside Out Productions, a professional visual arts studio, and independent living skills programs for adults with developmental disabilities. Inside Out Productions was launched in 1994 to give adults with developmental disabilities a means of creative expression. Using professional working artists as instructors, the program quickly grew into a commercial art venture, teaching art theory, drawing, painting with acrylics and watercolor, woodblock, sewing, quilting, embroidery, weaving and working with multi-media. Today, Inside Out Productions employs 19 part-time artists with developmental disabilities and provides professional art instruction to an additional 30.

Painting

Inside Out Productions has had four three-month exhibits in the Ruby Gallery at the Skirball Cultural Center, 21 Annual Art Shows (17 at The Jan Baum Gallery, until she retired, and four at the Koplin Del Rio), and numerous smaller exhibits, group shows, and boutiques. And, for the last several years, they have sponsored the Abilities Expo Artist Market. Inside Out Productions has become an effective means of introducing the abilities of people with developmental disabilities to the community; art has the power to transform lives and foster understanding.

“Art is amazing because it comes magically from your own thoughts and imagination. Through my art I have learned that the storms outside in the world are like my personal storms and you can get through them.”
Lisie Y.

“Art is a way of expressing yourself, especially the good things. I have learned that determination is the key to doing your best art work. Even if you are not successful, you will still learn something.”
Sherrie H.

“I am a bright artist. I notice the big city and the houses and the parks and raining. I notice quietness and the people and the parties that people have New Year's Eve.”
Constantine F.
