Chronic pain costs the US economy over one billion dollars per day in direct medical costs and another billion dollars per day in lost worker productivity and enjoyment of life. Most patients prefer non-pharmaceutical therapies, but are either unaware of the alternatives or unable to get treatment from medical doctors who lack the necessary training.
One of the most promising drug-free pain management therapies that most patients can carry out at home is cold water immersion therapy. Clinical trials, medical case studies, and testimonials support the use of multimodal, drug-free approach to management of pain and chronic inflammation.
In particular, three modalities stand out: 1) cold for inflammation, 2) grounding to Earth for circulation, and 3) Epsom soak hydrotherapy for relaxation. This presentation describes the science behind each of these and the use of the Morozko ice bath for their simultaneous application in one cold water immersion machine.
