Hummingbird Pediatric Therapies: Where Children Take Flight

Hummingbird Pediatric Therapies provides neuro-affirming, play-based care that supports each child’s physical, emotional, and social development through personalized, compassionate therapies for children of all abilities.

At Hummingbird Pediatric Therapies, we honor each child’s unique strengths and challenges and believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive physically, emotionally, and socially. That’s why we take a neuro-affirming, play-based therapeutic approach to support the whole child and their family. With clinics located in Elmhurst, Westmont, Woodridge and a new Lisle location opening in 2026 that will feature a pool to support the growth of our Aquatics program, our multidisciplinary team offers a wide range of therapies designed to help children of all abilities grow with confidence.

Movement That Builds Momentum: The Hummingbird Intensive

The Hummingbird Intensive is a powerful, collaborative program led by a team of Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists. Our intensives run for 3 weeks at either the Elmhurst or Woodridge clinics, and we accept insurance. Our team works closely with families before and after the intensive to set functional and meaningful goals, whether your child is building on previous gains or trying something entirely new.

Our intensives can incorporate:

  • Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI)
  • Whole Body Vibration
  • Electrical Stimulation
  • Spinal Stimulation
  • Suspension Cage
  • Reflex Integration
  • Fine and Visual Motor Goals
  • Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)

Many of our families also choose to include speech or feeding therapy during their sessions. After each intensive, families leave with a home routine and the ability to support continued progress.

Preparing for Greater Independence: The Life Skills Program

For many young adults, traditional pediatric therapies may no longer meet their evolving needs.  Our Life Skills Program was created to fill that gap, supporting daily living skills like dressing, grooming, managing transitions, engaging in social settings, preparing a meal or household responsibilities. We recognize that independence looks different for every individual. Our focus is on progress that reflects each person’s strengths and priorities, and not one-size-fits-all milestones.

Individual therapy sessions and social groups for our Life Skills program take place at our Elmhurst clinic in a fully equipped mock-apartment. The therapy team, which includes OTs, PTs, speech therapists, feeding therapists and social workers, collaborates closely with both families and the participants to set impactful goals that build confidence and independence, while focusing on the carry-over to outside our clinic.

Small Groups to Learn Big Skills: The Hummingbird Academy

Hummingbird Academy is a partial-day, therapist-led social program designed to support young children in a nurturing, small group setting. The focus is on their cognitive and social-emotional development.

Our OTs, PTs, speech therapists, feeding therapists and counselors guide children in developing authentic social connections, emotional regulations, problem-solving, and the confidence to navigate group environments, all at their own pace.

The Academy welcomes children ages 2 to 6 year round and up to as old age 10 during our summer sessions.

More Than Therapy: The Hummingbird Difference

Hummingbird’s philosophy is rooted in collaboration with our families, across disciplines, and with the child or young adult.  Whether you are navigating a new diagnosis, working towards that next gross motor leap, or moving through adolescence, we are here to be your steady partner.
