This August, the Cinema Touching Disability Film Festival (CTDFF) comes to Houston for the first time! CTDFF, which features short films by independent filmmakers, is the largest and longest-running cinematic celebration of disability in Texas. Over the last 22 years, we’ve built a loyal audience of disability advocates and independent film lovers. The festival is both a chance to see short films by and about people with disabilities from all over the world, and an opportunity to connect with other people with disabilities, disability advocates, and allies right here in Texas.
“I love seeing authentic disability representation at Cinema Touching Disability,” says volunteer judge, disability advocate, and Texan filmmaker Maddy Ullman. “The talented filmmakers create beautiful moving stories that highlight disability so well. It brings me so much joy knowing that this film festival exists in Texas.”
CTDFF Houston, presented by the Coalition of Texans with Disabilities and In-Home Attendant Services, takes place Saturday, August 1st at McNair Hall in Houston Christian University. The evening will feature three short film blocks of 45 minutes each with introductions by local disability advocates.
The program has something for everyone, with shorts ranging from goofy buddy comedies to gritty science fiction thrillers. Fall back into first love alongside a Saudi Arabian child with Down Syndrome in “Gum,” or explore the inner world of an artist as a genre-blurring landscape of movement, color, and sound in “Dreamscapes.”
