New York and a New Chapter
My name is Yolanda Vicente, and I was born and raised in Queens, in New York City. I grew up with two loving parents, and two younger brothers. Today, I am a proud mother of two and grandmother to three beautiful grandbabies.
I was born with a spinal cord injury following childbirth, caused by a doctor which left me paralyzed for life. While my life was altered by a medical error, I do not let my injury define who I am. I choose daily to stay grateful to the Lord for each day, and put my focus toward adapting with strength.
Turning Personal Struggle Into a Travel Career
Ever since I was a child, I’ve carried a long, ambitious bucket list that I knew I was meant to fulfill. I eventually relocated to Florida, seeking improved accessibility. From the start, I encountered early setbacks due to staffing and equipment limitations in local schools. Undeterred, I adapted and successfully earned my GED.
Following this milestone, I completed specialized coursework to receive my certification in Photographic Art. I have since launched my career as a freelance accessible photographer, providing inclusive photography services for all occasions across Florida, New York, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Hawaii and Jamaica. My goal has always been focused around exploring the world and showcasing adaptive travel to help others travel easier.
As a wheelchair user and experienced traveler, I have encountered numerous logistical challenges during my trips. These obstacles made it clear that there is a pressing need for more travel agents who specialize in accessible travel for our community.
Since launching my career with CruiseOne/Dream Vacations in 2009, I have developed extensive industry expertise as a Certified Travel Associate. Over the past 15+ years, I have earned comprehensive certifications across all major cruise lines and destination resorts, and while this journey has been incredibly rewarding, my growing passion for travel planning has inspired me to expand my capabilities and pursue the next strategic step in my career.
From Certified Travel Associate to Franchise Owner
In January 2024, I completed the intensive new franchise training and business management course with Dream Vacations Franchise. I graduated top of my class with honors, earning my Master’s Certificate. Today, I am the proud owner of Sweet Destinations Travel Team by Dream Vacations, and I am a Certified Travel Advisor specializing through Special Needs Group (SNG) to assist travelers with special needs (like myself) who may need special rental equipment.
In 2026, I achieved my Masters certification through RC University as a Royal Caribbean Wedding Professional. My ultimate goal is to build an inclusive, welcoming platform that proves the world is more accessible than ever—designing flawless weddings, honeymoons, and anniversary escapes for EVERYONE.
No matter the direction life takes me, I know for a fact that my biggest support is family, friends and loved ones. They remain my greatest joy.
