Steve “Short Bus” Krause calls his disability a speed bump, not a roadblock — and he’s got 20 years of sit-down comedy to prove it. The name started as a Halloween costume right when he was starting comedy; he took it and rolled with it. Born with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC) — multiple joint contractures present at birth — in both his arms and legs, he’s performed across the country and at festivals alongside some of the biggest comedians in the world. He spent five years working for the Arizona Cardinals and the NFL. In 2016, he climbed the Rocky Steps in Philadelphia using only his neck and back — because of course he did. Steve lives in Phoenix, AZ with his wife and 3 “ramp kids” (“step” is a naughty word in his house) and his 9-year-old daughter. His 45-minute comedy keynote, “Road Blocks vs Speed Bumps,” mixes comedy with the real story behind it, and his merch brand Short Bus Comedy, LLC lives by the same rule: funny first, real second. Making disability normal, one joke at a time.
