Abilities Expo Enhances Attendee Experience with NEW Abilities Meet Up Zone
The Abilities Meet Up Zone—launching at Abilities Expo Chicago (#AbilitiesExpo) June 24-26, 2016—is poised to blow the socks off the disability community in the Windy City. Designed to foster greater community engagement, the Zone is already generating excitement among expo-goers.
In the tradition of a town square, the Abilities Meet Up Zone will be a dedicated area on the show floor where attendees can engage with their peers, experience the Expo more fully, and enjoy a deeper connection as they learn from and share with exhibitors and other experts.
One-on-one Peer Connections Add Value for Attendees
Picture this: You arrive at Abilities Expo early to make sure you are in time for the workshop—one of many—on how to make your home accessible without sacrificing aesthetics. You peruse a few of the aisles of the Expo, taking in booth after booth of the latest products and services devised to promote greater independence for you and the rest of disability community. You make in to the event arena just in time to catch an exhilarating performance from the Walk and Roll Dance Team. Then you see it…flanked in dazzling white drape, the Abilities Meet Up Zone, with open space for rollers, comfortable seats for walkers, complimentary refreshments and the golden opportunity to engage one-on-one with others from the community.
“Love the idea,” said Dana about the Meet Up Zone at the upcoming Chicago Abilities Expo. “Can’t wait!”
The Abilities Meet Up Zone morphs the realm of social media into reality and back into social media, as the community can engage on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, Pinterest and Youtube before, during and succeeding the Chicago Abilities Expo. At the Expo, attendees will be treated to an impressive line-up of exhibits, workshops, events and activities to appeal to people of all ages with the full spectrum of disabilities…and you will also have a place to relax and connect with others who face similar challenges
“In order to engage our community and provide them with a more experiential visit, we have created this zone for attendees to interact with each other and meet one-on-one with experts knowledgeable about the types of disabilities they may have,” said Abilities Expo Co-owner Lew Shomer. “It is the next step in enhancing the overall Expo experience for our attendees.”
Exhibitors and experts with resources to share are already lining up to participate. Check back soon for more details on which gurus will be available for consult in the Zone.
Whether you have just had an accident, are a parent of a child with CP or an adult striving to live independently with a debilitating condition, you can discuss personal issues with those who understand your narrative. Then, if you choose, you can share your overall Zone experience online to your individual social networks. (Tag #AbilitiesExpo.)
And for online relationships formed in advance of the event, the Abilities Meet Up Zone can translate those virtual connections into tangible networking opportunities, face-to-face reunions and new resources for information and advice. There will even be a photo booth area so you can capture the excitement and joy of meeting new friends.
Lisa Wells, founder of Wheel:Life, and her team will act as facilitators of the Abilities Meet Up Zone, making introductions, sparking conversations between attendees and experts and getting like-minded people to share experiences. “The Wheel:Life team is thrilled to be a part of this exciting new Abilities Expo feature,” she said. “The Zone will be a casual, fun place where people can go for a relaxing break from the Expo hubbub. While “in the Zone” they can forge new relationships, gain different perspectives about current issues and generally enjoy themselves.”
