Assistive Technology Showcase: Interact with Tomorrow's Technology Today
Here's what we did in 2018. Stay tuned for 2019!
Please check back three months
before the Expo for the new schedule.
The Abilities Expo AT Showcase, sponsored by Easter Seals, is your chance to explore how assistive technology can help you or your loved ones bridge the gap between ability and disability!
Celebrating 25 years of empowering people to reach their full potential, Easter Seals' pioneering Assistive Technology program ensures that children and adults with physical, sensory, developmental and learning disabilities have equal opportunities to live, learn, work and play.
At the AT Showcase, you'll meet vendors who will demo AT equipment. You'll talk with Easter Seals AAC staff who will provide information on communication devices and AAC intervention and strategies. Here are just some of the exciting products that you will find onsite:
ONYX HD Portable Video Magnifier
The ONYX Deskset HD is a portable video magnifier that adapts to multiple environments and tasks for productivity at school, work, and at home. The new sleek design integrates a high-definition camera and monitor to let you clearly see what you want, whether it's across the room or at your desk. The 3-in-1 flexible camera provides document reading, distance viewing, and self-viewing modes with versatile controls.
Focus Braille displays
Our world-class refreshable Braille displays deliver brisk Braille input and output for your PC or mobile device. The robust Bluetooth® connectivity provides seamless use with Windows®, Mac®, iPhones®, iPads®, and Android™smartphones and tablets. Ergonomic navigation features allow quick, natural hand movements for greater productivity. When the Focus Braille displays are used with JAWS® screen reading software, they support our popular Braille Study Mode, an interactive tool for teaching and learning Braille.
To operate, simply power on the unit, release the camera arm and place the reading material under the high-resolution camera. Press the scan button to take a snap shot of the text, and in seconds the Optelec ClearReader+ will read the desired text in high quality speech and a natural sounding voice.
The VisioBook S is the portable, foldable video magnifier for people who need access to a desktop magnification system, but want it in a conveniently designed shape and size that allows them to fold it away when not in use, and take it with them as they travel within a building, across town, or across the country.
JACO Robotic Arm
JACO Rehab edition is an assistive robot arm that attaches to a power wheelchair and is designed for individuals with upper body disabilities. It's unique features will help you push boundaries and better equip you to overcome obstacles.
People with physical disabilities often cannot access computers because mice, keyboards, touch screens and other conventional interfaces require fast and accurate hand motions. Puffin is a "sip-puff" joystick that can be moved with the mouth and "clicked" by sipping or puffing into it. With more improvements still planned, the Puffin prototype is already changing the way you can use your joystick.
Being able to speak is something that most people take for granted. However, some of us are born with Cerebral Palsy, have ALS/MND or may have acquired a disability through an injury or a stroke—all of which can impair our ability to speak. Tobii has released a range of new augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) solutions that help individuals with speech impairments communicate.
Quartet Technology, Inc. is the world leader in Environmental Control Unit technology and offers a wide array of products to suit the needs of its clients.
Come and test drive this technology for yourself!
