Abilities Expo Toronto Debut to Feature Latest Products and Services for Canadian Disability Community, January 20-22, 2017

Toronto, ON, Canada – The Canadian disability community welcomes the much-anticipated launch of the first annual Abilities Expo Toronto at the International Centre on January 20-22, 2017. Designed to promote greater independence for people with disabilities, their families, caregivers, seniors, wounded veterans and healthcare professionals, this ground-breaking event will open eyes to new technologies, new possibilities and new solutions for daily living.

Attendees will enjoy an impressive line-up of products, services, workshops and adaptive activities geared for people of all ages with the full spectrum of disabilities—including physical, learning, developmental and sensory. Admission to the show will be free and the hours are Friday and Saturday 11:00 am – 5:00 pm, and Sunday 11:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Originally a U.S.-based event, Abilities Expo has joined forces with leading consumer show producer Caneast Shows to debut Abilities Expo Toronto, the first in a series of nationwide Expos for the disability community.

"Abilities Expo is a unique forum that provides access to the latest, game-changing products and technologies," said Sabrina Tedesco, show manager of Abilities Expo Toronto. "Then we round it out with an info-packed workshop series, wheelchair dancing, adaptive sports, service animals and so much more. It's not just a 'must-attend' for the disability community. It's a multi-faceted celebration of all abilities."

Complimentary loaner scooters and free wheelchair repair will be available during show hours.

Products and Services for the Disability Community

Expo-goers with a wide range of disabilities will test drive a host of mobility products, devices for people with developmental disabilities, medical equipment, home accessories, essential services, low-cost daily living aids, products for seniors, equipment for those with sensory impairments and more. Not-for-profit organizations that focus on providing resources and services to this underrepresented community will also be on hand.

Sports, Dancing, Gaming and More

Headlining Abilities Expo are golfing extraordinaire Todd Keirstead of Bring Back the Game and Paul "Rosey" Rosen, Paralympic gold medalist in sledge hockey, who will motivate, educate, inspire and entertain with golf trick shots and uplifting stories. Attendees of all abilities can also test their skills with adaptive sports like wheelchair basketball, boccia and sitting volleyball.

Wheel Dance, Canada's first organization to offer wheelchair ballroom and Latin dance, will team up with Auti Angel, international dancing sensation and star of the critically acclaimed reality show Push Girls, for an unforgettable dance experience.

Leveraging clever adaptive controls at the Adaptive Gaming Pavilion, attendees will more fully experience the world of gaming. Kids will love the face painting as they showcase their individuality.

Relevant Workshops

A series of compelling workshops which address pressing disability issues are offered free-of-charge to all attendees. Sessions focus on travel, home accessibility, emergency preparedness, chronic pain relief, bionics, nutrition, financial planning, pediatric therapies and that is just for starters.

Assistance Animals

Animals have become an intrinsic part of the disability community. Some are essential to the healing process, while others help their human partners become more independent. Expo-goers can enjoy service dog demonstrations, and learn how these four-legged friends can improve quality of life.
