The ADA Legacy Tour

The ADA Legacy Tour is a traveling exhibit designed to raise public awareness and excitement about ADA25, the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 2015. Produced by The ADA Legacy Project, the ADA Legacy Tour will include historical artifacts from the disability rights movement, including information on current issues in disability policy and video interviews with the next generation of advocates. The Tour kicked off in Houston, Texas on July 25, 2014 and is traveling across the country, making its final stop in Washington, DC July 26, 2015. Learn more at www.adalegacy.com.

Hand Cycle Area

Enjoy this opportunity to try a hand cycle for yourself! Hand cycling is a form of adaptive cycling that enables athletes of all abilities to ride a "bike" exclusively using the upper body. Unlike many other adaptive sports hand cycling works to create integrated cycling opportunities for wheelchair users and athletes with lower-mobility impairments. Consumers of all levels, from beginner to elite, are welcome. Clinicians, stop by for information needed to confidently prescribe the right hand cycle for patients.

Adaptive Remote Controlled Cars Demonstration

First time at Abilities Expo! Radio controlled (or R/C for short) cars offer fun for people of all abilities. R/C cars are self-powered model cars or trucks that can be controlled from a distance using a specialized transmitter. Axon RC will be on hand to introduce the popular hobby to attendees with an assortment of vehicles, and a track boundary for some short races. Adaptive controls will be available. Test your skills! Auti is the pioneer of wheelchair Hip-Hop dancing, the founder of the Colours~N~Motion Dance Crew, and star of the film "Musical Chairs" and the TV series "Push Girls". Attendees of all ages and mobility levels are welcome to learn fun basic dance steps. Dancing crosses the boundaries of age, gender, and physical ability; it includes individuals using both manual and power wheelchairs. Quad Rugby Demonstration

Competitive wheelchair rugby is one of the fastest growing wheelchair sports in the world. The Chicago Bears will join us to demonstrate this exciting game - a cross between wheelchair basketball, ice hockey, and soccer. Any individual with impairments in three or more extremities may be eligible to play. This may include, but not limited to: spinal cord injury, post polio and cerebral palsy. Wheelchair rugby is played with four players on a team on a basketball court. The main message of quad rugby is "Smashing Stereotypes One Hit at a Time" and the sport has proven to be a life changer for those who start playing it.
