Course Description:
Keeping up with changes in power wheelchair electronics is very important for the clinician and ATP working with consumers in the field. Enhancements in electronics can bring new levels of independence for a consumer. The Q-Logic 3 system has new enhancements that truly allow the electronics to be able to be customized to the individual significantly. This course will provide a hands-on approach to how specialty controls can be programmed with maximal benefit to the consumers that need these electronics. Clinical scenarios will be offered to assist with understanding the application of new features.

Course Description:

This course will examine the coverage criteria, clinical benefits and research in support of the various power seating functions, provide the clinician with practical tools to consider and incorporate when evaluating and documenting the need for power seat options; and assist the supplier in reading and interpreting the information in the medical record to determine when to provide power tilt, power recline, a combination of tilt and recline; when power ELRs or a power AFP is medically necessary and what is required for power seat elevation to be considered a covered benefit. The course will include a hands-on component for participants to utilize power tilt, power recline and power seat elevation.

Learning Objectives:

The participant will be able to:

  1. Name at least 4 considerations involved in the selection of seating and power positioning options.
  2. State the clinical benefits of tilt and recline related to Pressure Management.
  3. List 2 contraindications for using recline.
  4. State 1 clinical benefit for use of power adjustable seat height in participating or performing MRADLs.
  5. Discuss and utilize evidenced based research and apply to clinical decisions in the selection of power positioning systems.
